This was a massive treat. I rarely see these guys. Yesterday, there were a bunch of House Finches and Gold Finches, and one Purple. The purple really stands out when they are next to a House finch, and it makes the house finch red look very orangey.

A fine finch. I like the third in which you can see that the rump is also purple.
One could get colour like that on their face either from messily eaten beets or bilberries, it’s a a bit ambiguous that way. 8-)

Very nice.
I saw several Gray Capped Gnat catchers on my hike saturday, but the little buggers are quick and wouldn’t sit still.
I do have some nice desert vistas I could share if you want a break from the cold (at least visually). :)
