@rq -- funny to name them winter finch in your country. They breed in sommer where you live. Where I live they only come during some winters and this was the first time in my life I have seen them. It took me awhile to identify the species.

Yeah, it’s weird, too -- though it might be because they migrate here fairly early, because in March of last year I found a dead one on our lawn (photos somewhere, if you want I can share -- I’m about 90% it was a winter finch, at least, going from current memory). March was an unusually cold month for us, but maybe it’s typical for them to arrive in very early spring, when normal people still consider winter to be present.

Cute indeed. In Finnish it’s järripeippo. The first part is onomatopoeic, so it would something like rra finch.

Kyooooot! They’re just ziemas žubīte (winter finch) here… but I like the colouring, the rusty bits are quite flashy against the winter landscape.
