Ohhh, flooded birch woods.
Makes you want to slide on the ice

All these photos are from Pikku Huopalahti area in Helsinki. The sea levels were (and still are) high so the eponymous bay has flooded the woods by the shore. A lot of birds feed on the reeds, but I wasn’t able to get any photos of them, either you don’t see them or they fly away.
The small river in the last is Haaganpuro (Haaga brook), which flows into Pikku Huopalahti. Its headwaters are in the Central Park of Helsinki and it used to be called Mätäpuro (rotten brook), but because there is also a river called Mätäjoki (rotten river) in Helsinki, they changed it to Haaganpuro (also it’s a bit nicer name). There is nowadays a naturally breeding trout population in Haaganpuro, though it’s now in danger because a car repair shop decided to get rid of waste motor oil by dumping it to a storm drain and the oil has polluted a part of the headwaters.

I didn’t want to risk getting my feet wet or sinking into mud so I didn’t try 8-). The weather has been such that unless the ice goes all the way to the bottom, it won’t carry a person.
