We should go to cross-quarter days as the beginning of seasons.
Today would be MidWinter, the time when the days start getting longer.

I had to snowblow out the driveway twice in the last ten days. Now it is above freezing here in Chiwaukee, and the longer range forecast has approx. 45F high for early next week. Bye-bye to a lot of the snow on the ground.

Those “girls” were sure robust.

In Oz it’s summer -- we’ve been lucky with a cooler than usual December but now its heating up & I really wish it would’nt though inevitably it will complete with risk of bushfires, insomnia (more than usual) and whopping watering bills and /or dying plants.
Really, really wish I could swap some of your excessive cold for some of my excessive heat and make things balance for best for all.

Nah, it just means your calendar favours the astronomical over the meteorological. The latter’s version of winter started on December the first.
