A year in the life of a Latvian Badger.

This is a wonderful video, and contains one of best happy scritching grooming moments ever.

During 2016, the badger had the honor of being Latvia’s animal of the year. And what a year it has been for badgers, as the video below shows.

Produced by the Latvian Natural History Museum and Latvian State Forests, the video shows badgers frolicking, loving, playing, fighting and generally badgering about throughout the whole year.

With films of all sorts of nonsense all over the place these days, how simple and refreshing it is to just watch 20 minutes of badgers being badgers.

There are also special guest appearances by deer, foxes, and assorted other woodland associates of Old Brock himself.

Thank you, Latvian badgers everywhere. Enjoy!

I generally approve of all badger content! (except for badger-hunting content) so of course this is wonderful!

If you google about there is also a David Attenborough-narrated movie about Badgers (“The secret life of the sett”) which is pretty hard to find but is worth the search. If anyone wants it I can probably upload it to someplace from my archive. (Also: wolverines! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moAJ0pW7dQQ )

One of these animals is not like the others, one of these animals does not belong.

Racoon dog (about 7:00 into the clip) is an invasive species and it is actually detrimental to badger populations, since it competes with badgers.

The scritching was soooooooo. SATISFYING! to watch.

It was so joyous, and playful, and happily hedonistic. One of the best things ever. Made you want to sit down and do the same damn thing.
