Autumn colours. A radically different colour space from summer colours.
When leaves are red, yellow, orange and brown, it is called ruska in Finnish. The word ruska is related to the word that means brown and used to mean red, ruskea. Ruska is also a brand name for a fortfied lingonberry wine, probably because the lingonberry leaves will turn bright red in the late autumn.
The grey colour of the bird is reminiscent of snag and traditional grey woollen clothes (made from a mixture of black and white sheep’s wool).

White Crowneds are a winter visitor here, and one of the few ‘snowbirds’ I look forward to seeing.
I’m much less fond of the homo sapiens version of snowbirds.
