Castiglia’s work is beautiful, and very evocative. I have history which would make using my own blood a seriously bad idea, but I could always get blood from a butcher.

That hadn’t occurred to me, but yes, that would definitely rule out forgery.

If the blood hasn’t been mixed with anything particularly acidic and is stored in a cool, dry, out-of-direct-sunlight location, you can get DNA out of it for years and years afterwards. It really depends on whether it is just blood or if it is mixed with something like a fixative, those have been known to degrade DNA.
I love this, though I think ‘delicious’ is entirely the wrong word to describe it. :)
