The white and dark spots on the wings create nice, subtle patterns. Female grosbeaks seem to have this aura of self-confidence in them.
They do have that aura, although they are actually quite shy and wary.
I get that impression from all the grosbeaks. There’s something about that conical beak that implies confidence and intelligence to me. The professors of the bird world.
