F*CK HB 2

North Carolina’s beer industry has a message for the governor: Hate has no place in their state.

In response to House Bill 2, the controversial law that forces trans people to use the public restroom that does not correspond with their gender identity, the state’s Wedge Brewing Company has begun printing “#F*CK HB2” on its beverages. The can of the company’s popular Iron Rail IPA, features the hashtag printed on the bottom of the can. It’s designed to look like a serial number.

“We’ve seen businesses, municipalities, and even rock legends from around the country punish North Carolina for passing this law,” Myers said in a statement. “We’ve seen business expansions and job opportunities pull out of the state. We see that our communities are being harmed by this action.” He further added: “We didn’t feel like HB2 represented us as businesses or as residents of North Carolina.”

In April, over 40 local companies announced that they would be releasing a limited-edition brew to raise money for local LGBT non-profits, including Equality North Carolina and Queer Oriented Radical Days of Summer (QORDS), a summer camp specifically for LGBT youth. The beer, called “Don’t Be Mean to People, A Golden Rule Saison,” will be available locally in May.

In related news, McCrory has found a whole new career in whining. What now? Well, the new federal education guidelines. Pat doesn’t like them.

The Obama administration’s letter explaining public school districts’ obligations to their transgender students is “massive executive branch overreach, which clearly oversteps constitutional authority,” says North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory.

[…]

“President Obama’s administration has instituted federally mandated edicts that affect employees as well as every parent and child within a public school system,” McCrory said of the letter, in which the Education and Justice Departments direct school districts to treat transgender students according to their gender identity, including allowing them access to the single-sex facilities that match their identity.

“This national bathroom, locker room and shower policy for almost every business, university and now K-12 school in our country changes generations of gender etiquette and privacy norms which parents, children and employees have expected in the most personal and private settings of their everyday lives,” McCrory continued.

He demanded that federal courts and Congress “intercede to stop this massive executive branch overreach, which clearly oversteps constitutional authority.” The executive branch, he said, “does not have the authority to be the final arbiter” concerning the matter.

Then there’s Texas:

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is stepping up to defend North Carolina’s anti-LGBT House Bill 2 and teasing that his state might adopt a similar law.

[…]

On Thursday, Abbott, speaking at the Texas GOP convention in Dallas, told delegates. “I am working with the governor of North Carolina, and we are going to fight back,” reports Odessa TV station KOSA.

A superintendent of the Port Neches-Groves school district in Texas spoke out Thursday against the Obama administration’s new guidance for public schools, directing that transgender students are protected against discrimination by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. He told Beaumont TV station KBMT:

“I got news for President Barack Obama. He ain’t my president and he can’t tell me what to do. That letter [to be released to all public schools tomorrow] is going straight to the paper shredder. I have five daughters myself and I have 2,500 girls in my protection. Their moms and dads expect me to protect them. And that is what I am going to do. Now I don’t want them bullied … but there are accommodations that can be made short of this. He [President Obama] is destroying the very fiber of this country. He is not a leader. He is a failure.”

On Tuesday, the lieutenant governor and the attorney general of Texas announced their support of North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory and HB 2.

He ain’t my president and he can’t tell me what to do.

I’m pretty sure Obama’s executive authority does in fact mean he can tell Mr. Neches-Groves exactly what to do.

He demanded that federal courts and Congress “intercede to stop this massive executive branch overreach, which clearly oversteps constitutional authority.”

…The same courts which stated Title IX applies to trans folk?? They’re not going to validate your panicked braying.

I have five daughters myself and I have 2,500 girls in my protection. Their moms and dads expect me to protect them.

I’m sure the irony of the trans girls needing protection too--sometimes from aforementioned cis daughters--is lost on him.

Wait, isn’t he the one creating laws about bathrooms literally telling people where to pee?

“I got news for President Barack Obama. He ain’t my president and he can’t tell me what to do.

I got news for you: That’s not how democracy works. You can’t just ignore laws and stuff because you lost the election and don’t like them.

Yabbut, he can’t tell me what to do! The maturity is just overwhelming.

That’s the truly frightening thing about your current Republicans: They have decided that the rules of the game only apply when they’re winning. They no longer accept the results of elections or verdicts that are not in their favour.

Because obviously this means the system is rigged and not functioning as it was meant to. It’s been poisoned by liberal bias! Because all those people spouting liberal ideas are brainwashed fools whose opinions don’t count.
And I’m going to stop channelling republicans (inner or outer) right now, it makes me feel gross.
