EW released the first photo of Laverne Cox as Frank-N-Furter, the doctor from Transsexual, Transylvania, in the upcoming Rocky Horror Picture Show reboot.

I don’t know that I’d call a made for TV movie a reboot, but Laverne Cox is rocking the look. I think I’ll have to confess that I’m on the glad side I don’t have television though, because I’m one of those old school fans when it comes to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I went to midnight shows when I was in high school (as Magenta), and those memories are special. I expect I’ll see this one at some point, I just need a bit of prep time.

Out has the story.

    Absolutely!

Same here. I had a friend who worked at the mall theater that showed it and we’d occasionally go watch after his shift was over.

Also, yes Laverne is totally rocking the look. Is Rocky a female too in this version of the story? The article doesn’t answer.

    Numenaster:

    That’s Ben Vereen, not Vareen.

I know, and I corrected it, I don’t know why it didn’t take. I’ll try again.

She rocks the look, but part of the whole “sweet transvestite” thing was the shock value of seeing a guy in a basque and stockings, etc. I think that it’d have worked better if they put her in a tuxy power-suit sort of thing, to keep the gender-bend in there.

I will always have a warm wet spot for Tim Curry.

Ah, I corrected the alt text, not the caption. Fixed now.

    Marcus:

noooooooo there can be only one!!!!!!!

That’s how my inner fan is feeling, but I’ll be able to watch this at some point. Still, no matter how much Laverne rocks it, there will only be one Frank for me.

Oh yes. Yes, yes, yes. And all the others, too. I might have to watch it yet again tonight, and get lost in the beauty of Tim.

lost in the beauty of Tim.

That he has not been knighted is a (drawl)facking shaaaame

The crazy thing is that I first fell in love with Sir Tim Curry’s amazing performances via his solo album “Fearless” which I bought because I appreciated the contrast ratioed lighting (and it was in the closeout bin next to Joy Division “unknown pleasures”) <<-- The haul that changed my life, in other words. Since "Fearless" has never exactly been a commercial hit elsewhere, I could be persuaded to make a .zip of it available for a short time if asked nicely.

If you haven't seen Sur Tim's performance as William Shakespeare -- do go look for it (and let me know if you need me to hoist the black flag)

Back in the day, I had Fearless on vinyl. (The year it was released (1979) was the year I married). I *love* Something Short of Paradise.

It was a pretty big hit in uStates, pretty high up on Billboard, from what I remember. Long time ago, though.

I have not, and I will go look.

    Something Short of Paradise.

It’s always been the only honest love-song I’ve heard.
    “Charge it” is also awesome.

I have his second album somewhere, too, but never bothered sending it off to get it digitized. It’s over with the Ray Wylie Hubbard and Jewel Shepard stuff, in case I ever need to blackmail anyone.

Curry’s performance in “Gabriel Knight” is worth a mention.

Tim Curry will also be in the remake, as the criminologist narrator (Rolling Stone).

The mildly deranged penguin was hoping to play Pea Pod, but the producers only sent the answers: “Who the feck is ‘Pea Pod’?”, “There. Is. No. Pea. Pod.”, and “The character has been cast. Thanks for the interest.”

Me too (though it was two life shows or so, never actually saw it in cinema). With a feather duster.

Honestly, Laverne Cox makes me doubt that whole being heterosexual thing.
