Someone has waaaaay toooo much time on their hands.
On the other hand, I used to spend thousands of hours drinking and hanging out with friends accomplishing nothing … when I could have been creating unique working assemblies out of scrap wood, magnets and marbles.
Fascinating! Reminiscent of Rube Goldberg contraptions and the game Mousetrap from when I was a kid.
I loved Mousetrap.
I’m glad that people are making productive use of their time.
It definitely brightened up my day, so I view that as highly productive.
There’s a lot of good physics going on there. If someone could make an inexpensive kit of a few of those “tricks”, it could be a good teaching tool.
If that was a kit, I’d buy it.
This was truly awesome, and had me laughing out loud in places.
I’m sure it would be possible to put together a kit of the necessary parts pretty easily. The brilliance is in how they’re put together.
DonDueed:
Me too! I loved the parts where a ball snapped to magnet chain and spun about. Made me feel like a little kid.
Holy crap, that was awesome!
Somewhat related is this episode of Smarter Every Day, about printable magnets:

Jim:
No problem, I enjoyed that too!
Huh.
The Posse of Clown who is Insane were correct.
Jim:
Rick loved that video, he’s going to show it to the engineers at work! :D
Caine:
Glad you both liked it. The shaping of the fields to make the locking magnets blew me away.
