Last day for my fundraising, and I’ve reached my goal so no pressure, but speaking of fundraising … damn near everything Teaparty Republicans do these days is a scam. Not surprising, the whole movement is a scam, created to appear as a grassroots uprising demanding lower taxes and less regulation on conservative billionaires. So Ted Cruz’s fake filibuster scam, up to and including comparing healthcare to the Nazi Holocaust, is par for the course. It’s still just another scam, but one so clumsy and transparent that even fellow conservative grifters can hardly stand to watch:
WaPo — Sen. Ted Cruz has known since Monday exactly how long he’d be allowed to speak, and that no matter how long he talked, he wouldn’t be able to prevent a vote he had hoped to stop. That’s because, according to a spokesman for Majority Leader Harry Reid, Cruz approached Reid privately on the floor requesting the time to talk. And when no other Senator objected, Reid allowed it.
This is not bad. Every dime the Teatards put into this clown is one less they can use to affect a race or fund a commercial, meanwhile he gins up the wingnut base to shrill and is tearing his own party apart in the process. The bozo is effectively working for us at this point.
There is an advantage, sometimes, in a base that’s so stupid they not only don’t realize they’re hurting themselves and helping progressives, they will become apologetic in denial when its carefully explained to them. Not sure if ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’ applies, but at this point I wish there were a few more sociopaths like Cruz out there pathologically obsessed with feathering their own nest at the expense of the Rethug party.

Just checking — he comes from the same state as Wendy Davis, who conducted her filibuster because she’s a showboating grandstanding egomaniac who is cynically exploiting a political issue for her own personal and political gain, right?
Whereas Cruz is the one who is the brave defender of freedom.
I want to be sure I can keep them straight.

The difference is easy.
Wendy Davis wants to give better healthcare to poor people, especially poor women and children.
Ted Cruz wants to take decent healthcare away from everyone who might be poor.

Cruz was just shown on TV quoting Ayn Rand and “Green Eggs and Ham”. Getting Dr. Seuss completely wrong in the process, of course, since it ends with “I DO like green eggs and ham”. What an asshole. He’s just trying to reestablish his TeaPary cred.

Senate votes 100-0 to move ahead on debate over Obamacare
100-0 is a unanimous vote. That means Cruz joined the vote to end his performance.

#1, #2, Wendy Davis’s was a real filibuster. Ted Cruz’s was not. It was a long speech, and I mean that in a literal sense without mockery.
Someone in favor of the CR could have spoken as long as well. FIlibusters are used to prevent vote on a bill. Cruz’s talk did nothng of the sort

#5. No, Cruz voted after his long speech ended as it had a time limit. It is incorrect to consider what Cruz did as a filibuster. It was just a long talk that wasted one day. There was nothing else that was possible from his grandstanding
