I guess everyone has their mini-break point. For some reason, here’s mine: as soon I saw this three-year old video of India and Pakistan’s antics at their border, that was it. Something died deep inside. I feel like throwing in the towel and just finding a nice secluded cave somewhere to quietly die of intra-species embarrassment.

Why did that bother you so much? It’s just a show, like the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. I kind of liked how they shook hands at the end of the ceremony. There was no sign of animosity or ill-will. I can’t imagine that happening say, between North and South Korea it they had a similar “show.” Sure, it was strutting, macho-time stuff but that’s what armies do, at least the ceremonial parts of them.

British military pomp through a south Asian lens, with a a lot of time since the Raj for amplification and social intrenchment. Just a show for tourists as redwood said.

Anybody who doubts that humans are akin to primates need merely watch footage like this (with soundtrack muted) and then compare it with (similarly mute soundtrack) footage of dominance challenges among male chimps or baboons …
