Romney’s science flip-flops are well known, but this week Rachel Maddow rightly calls Sketchy out as the stone-cold liar he is, and it’s a thing of beauty to behold. If you’re pressed for time, just skip to the 6:25 mark and enjoy. On a related note, why in this media-saturated info-rich modern-day enviroment do we have to depend on a handful of shows, two of them on the Comedy Channel fer crisakes, to get accurate news? I have part of the answer, but often struggle with reducing the totality to a single manageable post, and any contributions or links on that would be appreciated.

I’m sure there are a number of reasons, some more strongly related than others, as to why we rely on confessed liars to produce facts from politicians (i.e., non-confessed liars).
However, I’d put money on media sensationalism. The info-rich modern world is still subject to the same invisible hand of supply and demand; if no one cares, no one gives you any money. And what people “care” about isn’t always the truth. In fact, it very rarely is; the truth is often quite dull. So, the media latches on to exciting things. And people who want to be inside the media sphere do exciting things. Oftentimes, these things have very little to do with honesty and morality.
However. Comedians, for a long time, have made a solid living finding the humor in truth. It’s even more funny when someone who professes to be honest is, in fact, not just lying, but lying spectacularly; this is comedic gold. And so, those people who are liars-for-entertainment (slight of hand artists, conjurers, comedians) are able to use the truth that liars-for-personal-gain (politicians, media talking heads) are demonstrably wrong in order to tell amusing jokes and keep us entertained.
Liars make easy targets of themselves. So easy, these days, that comedians can tell the truth, and still be funny.

Great points. And considering your recent Disney celebrity, I’m impressed you found the time :)

Romney’s lying is nothing new. He has been doing it since before he ran for Governor of Massachusetts. As Maddow says, his lies are out there for everyone to see in Google search. What Romney, the pond scum, is relying on is that most of the citizens are too ignorant and/or apathetic to look it up or care about it.

No, I depend on you for accurate news, so get with it. ;)

Being called out by someone on radio or TV is not very damaging to someone like him. The big question is will Obama do it in a debate when both sides will be listening.

No doubt Mittens will be stricken with a severe case of Romnesia in the general.

I’d pay good Canadian cash for a pair of Romney 2012 red white and blue flip-flops with built in shit stench

The reason the Mitt can lie so easily is that it’s part and parcel of his religion. All religions lie, be it hinduism, judiasm, christianity, buddhism, they all play fast and free with the truth. But they pale, for the most part, in comparison with the mormons. The magic underwear crowd sees nothing wrong with reversing positions as the politi/spiritual winds shift. Their “prophets” (read highly paid and praised liars) throw their own followers under the bus (as they sometimes rightly should) without a blink of an eye. Which is why Mitt’s mormonism is and needs to be a legitimate part of the debate, because that, to my belief, is what fuels his facile fabrications about everything.

What disturbs me most is that SO many people just don’t care. These sleazebags have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar and it’s even on tape yet folks don’t care. It doesn’t matter how much these fucks are exposed, some people just don’t care. I hate those people MUCH more than I do the likes of Romney and Newt. I EXPECT to find sociopaths going after political power. But tey’re sociopaths, their brains don’t do integrity and decency. What’s the general public’s exuse?

It seems to me that people are wired to care less about things that are not immediate or located nearby. Add in low-information, and you have the apathy you describe.

Honestly, is no one else terrified that we, as a country, let these “facts be damned” people have a voice? I thank my lucky stars I have two passports. I have spent the better part of two years reading and digesting the letters of our founding fathers. I have no words to adequately describe my disgust with the current Republican Party. I would, in fact, be disgusted with the Democratic Party if there were no Republican Party. Do you know what I mean?
Stephen "DarkSyde" Andrew says
I know exactly what you mean. We have one political party that is at least totally compromised if not outright bought by corporations, bows to silly religious and nationalistic soundbites, and panders to the lowest common denominator. Then we have another party that is full of bat-shit crazy nutjobs led by baby-eating reptilian sociopathic goons. It’s quite a shitty choice, but it’s not a hard one to make.
