In the name of Islam.

There is a secular uprising in Bangladesh. Hundreds of thousands of people are demanding death penalty for the war criminal Islamists, and the banning of Jamaat-e-Islami, the political party of the Islamic terrirists.

Delawar Hossain Sayedee, one of the most notorious criminals belonging to Jamaat-e-Islami, was handed a death sentence by the International war criminal tribunals, after almost a month of non-stop protests against the war criminals at Shahbag. After the verdict was issued, Sayedee’s Islamist followers vandalised cities, burned down Hindu and Buddhist temples, terrorized the whole country, killed innocent people. There is no doubt that in today’s Bangladesh, the Islamists are much more powerful and ferocious than ever.

Where is the world media?

It’s very politically incorrect to level any kind of criticism against Islam: What you write would be considered hate speech in most Western countries and virtually all progressive, feminist or socialist – aligned media sources, including activist and protest organizations, always avoid anything remotely critical of Islam.

This is almost an officially formulated policy in organizations like the Guardian newspaper ot the BBC or any American left-wing media outlet.

At some point, you’re going to have to admit that the socialist and left-wing caucus in the West has, effectively, abandoned Muslim women and non-religious Muslims. Though they deny this, consider how much time they spend attackingf Israel for defending itself – a society committed on most levels to anti-racism, feminism, fighting homophobia, etc. – and see how little time they spend even making the smallest comment on Indonesians persecuting non-Muslims in Irian Jaya, CHinese persecution of TIbetans or anyone else, Muslim genocides in Africa, ongoing brutal persecution of non-Muslim minorities throughout the Arab world– not a word.
Somehow, the only evil in the world appears to be from Christians and Secularists in the West.

Despite the claims that this is not true, I challenge you to look at, say, Ayaan Hirsi Ali and then read the virtriolic, hate-filled left-wing diatribes written about her.

In short, elevating Islam to a state where it cant be criticized is more important than protecting women. Islam is revolutionary; it detests the West; it wants to foment a revolution throughout the world. Therefore, no matter its content, it’s Untouchable.

If anyone who was not Muslim and had feminist bona-fides, like you, said a single bad word about Islam, she would at best be ignored, and at worst, attacked, in the Western media and among the “progressives”.

You cause has been utterly abandoned by your prospective allies. At some point, they will make this clear to you. I suspect you will be disappointed but unsurprised.

The left has other priorities. It hates all aspects of Western society far more than it fears actual religion. Most of the modern left has betrayed its adherents and functions on an unstable foundation of moral bankruptcy. This has been nascent since the 1960’s; in truth, it never really recovered from the disillusionment of Stain and China, when most of the Western left refused to see the communist movement for what it really was. There were apologists for Stalin in the West, especially among the French socialists that founded post-modernism, well into the 1970’s; ironically, there were none in the Soviet Union a day after he died, when the USSR nearly celebrated his death as national liberation.

It’s a sad fact, but women have basically been thrown under the bus.

It will take another decade or more to confront radical and even moderate Islam again.

Yours is likely the only voice not being forcibly silenced on the Left. Make sure they don’t do to you what they did to Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

So you’re a liar to begin with — doesn’t really bode well for the content of the rest of your post. (Protip: pointing out that the Islamist cranks use a few good points — a coincidentally anti-imperialist schtick, etc. — to prop up their overall bullshit isn’t the same as promoting right-wing Islamism, and any “socialist” who says otherwise is a knee-jerk ignoramus and/or (more likely) a strawman that you’ve constructed.)

Of course, the fact that you go on to promote genocide (the non-dog-whistle signified of your “Israel has a right to defend itself” shibboleth), I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that you insist on framing things in an us-vs.-them manner in order to promote brutality.

(tl;dr version: you’re screaming that “Anyone who doesn’t support the forms of slaughter that I support and/or pretend to not support while actively overlooking must, by definition, support all the bad things that I make a show of disliking!”. And it’s bullshit.)

Many writers say precisely what Taslima Nasrin says, but they’re pilloried for it. WHatTaslima writes about ISlam is studiously ignored by the Western media. And Israel has a right to exist, as much as Syria or Egypt or Kuwait or any Middle Eastern country. You paint yourself an anti-semite of the highest order by, for some bizarre and arcane reason, negatively mystifying Jewishness and implying that Israel has no right to exist. I’d never advocate for oppression of Palestinians, but there’s a peculiar anti-semitic and genocidal tone to most Arab propaganda – repeated throughout the entire Muslim world – when it comes to Israel. Even anti-Israeli writers freely admit this (though they applaud it).

The left is in a love-in at the moment with radical Islam. If you can’t see this by perusal of the average newspaper and a scanning of its bias, it says more about you than anyone else.

VIz: The entire nation of Sweden, now one of the European centers of anti-semitism and Pro-Islamic propaganda; France, where it’s now very fashionable to publicly attack Jews, and where the socialist left is adamant that ISlam come under no scrutiny of any kind, for any reason.

You’d like for me to be a bigot. Taslima Nasrin, Ayaan Hirsi Ali and a host of ex-Muslims have more extreme opinions than the most inveterate “Islamophobe”. In fact, their opinions are outright illegal in every Muslim country on Earth and those with similar views have been persecuted and charged with hate crimes in Canada, France, Holland, Sweden (successfully) and Norway.

I’m just pointing out that Ms. Nasrin’s natural allies – on the left – have utterly betrayed her in the name of other, and largely illusory, causes. She will realize this more as time passes.

I’m not asking her to join the Republican party. But pretend “Samantha Smith” wrote this in a major Western newspaper or for a blog in, say, London and then see what he natural reaction would be. I predict: Severe and censorious, and not one of those voices crying for her silence would be Muslim.

        And that’s a sad thing.

I don’t identify Jewishness with the imperialist, ethnic-supremacist version of Zionism. I celebrate the traditions of self-reflection and social justice in Jewish culture, including in the cultural Zionism that used to be a major force in Israeli politics and is still certainly present. I just don’t engage in either the popular dog-whistle ethnic supremacy (“Israel has a right to self defense” translates almost exclusively into “Israel has a right to take over Palestinian land and engage in any sort of violence at any time without being questioned” — an attitude which is itself a threat to the long-term security of Israel) or the insistence that any departure from the militarist right-wing fringe of Israeli politics amounts to “anti-Semitism.” (It’s the Orwellian definition of “anti-Semitism” where right-wing Christian fundamentalists who want all Jews to be concentrated in Israel for easy extermination are “not anti-Semitic” while Jewish progressives and socialists who push the “our country should be a moral example for the world” tradition are “anti-Semitic”.)

And yes, there are people on the left who romanticize the hell out of radical Islamism. No, I don’t get it, and no, I don’t defend it. On the other hand, there are more who are capable of taking positions with some nuance — for instance, that authoritarian religious militarism is unacceptable but that imperialism is also a major evil. This will, of course, be taken as implicit approval of radical Islamism in toto by those who insist that there is no attitude other than either a declaration of war or absolute approval, which is unfortunate. And finally, there are those on the left — especially the feminist, libertarian-socialist sorts — who recognize that political Islamism is one of the major sources of violence in the world today, is contrary to just about everything worth pushing for, and is toxic to the point that one shouldn’t trust an Islamist group even on questions where they seem to get something right (as simple as “imperialism is bad” or “water is wet”).

I don’t disagree with you about Islamism; I just disagree with your representation of the left as monolithically pro-Islam. Prone to excessive nuance in positions, and disappointingly timid in the face of outright (and righteous) denunciation of violent movements as we see in this blog, definitely; and that’s a pity.

On the Israel thing I have no dog in the race, there. I’m just saying – rockets fired at Israel daily, a population raised to want all Jews in the world exterminated, and the ones in Israel exterminated ASAP; constitutes a problem. Likely unsolvable, Not my issue, though. I do take issue with people who agree with this exterminationist attitude – a good portion of Sweden, Ireland, manhy of the readers of the Manchester Guardian, etc.

And on this, we agree, where you say:
And finally, there are those on the left — especially the feminist, libertarian-socialist sorts — who recognize that political Islamism is one of the major sources of violence in the world today, is contrary to just about everything worth pushing for, and is toxic to the point that one shouldn’t trust an Islamist group even on questions where they seem to get something right (as simple as “imperialism is bad” or “water is wet”).

However, this segment of the left you appreciate is, unfortunately, not the one with most of the public voice. It represents no position of the major Western left-wing parties, all of them solidly Anti-Imperialist in the worst, most ideologically blinkered ways, and on the almost complete silence from left-wing / socialist Feminism, nothing more need be said. The silence is deafening.

There are a few libertarian types out there, libertarian lefties, in feminist and other circles – but they hold few if any academic positions (dominated by the most hard-core neo-marxists, for lack of a better term), have the ears of all majhor left-wing political parties, and a near-total lock on liberal media outlets – which, in an interesting reversal since the 1970’s-80’s, are now in the majority.

Just watch the BBC if you want to experience this. Or anything in Sweden or Norway. Or even in Canada or the United States.

While you may represent the nice face of the Left, your views – with which I agree – represent a sadly marginalized and almost irrelevant segment. No power, no representation, no voice, and no influence.

So the position of the non-radical left, a thinking left, is largely irrelevant. It functions more as a voice for left-wing apology rather than change.

And yet they continue to get slots in the comments sections in newspapers with their ‘oh noes teh muzzies’ stories. France gets to ban headscarfs, Switzerland impose restrictions on minarets, UK locks up clueless teenage girls who write bad poems about jihadis. Yep, the islamists have practicly already taken over.

I totally agree with you, however I am not optimistic that I will live long enough to see religion removed from the face of the earth. It is more dangerous than climate change, more dangerous than earthquakes and tsunamis and anything than the planet can throw at us. We are our own worst enemy if we let the cancer of religion go unchecked.
