Over at The Daily Beast they do some serious investigative journalism, and keep an eye on the important problems affecting the world today. It’s hard not to chuckle a bit over this one – it’s both so unexpected and completely expectable. Before we dig into it, why don’t you pause and think for a second and ask yourself “what would be an unexpected problem making a movie out of Cats?”
Perhaps some of you know what’s going on with this; I’m mystified.
Turbulence, that’s what we’ve got. Things pressing against other things in irregular ways, and energy goes squirting around in complex, dynamic, ways as materials are displaced and look for another way of getting into equilibrium.
I was amazed by how quickly Congress was able to jack open the nation’s checkbook and write a ginormous rubber check with the “Pay To: _________” part left blank.
Someday I want to do a series of posts, attempting to unpack how free market capitalist ideology evolved. There are some interesting characters who have stepped forward and said things about markets that seem just flat-out goofy, to me – such as Hayek’s unsupported insisting that any regulation of capitalism results in totalitarian “serfdom” for the people.

Boats and ships scare me. That dates back to a particularly difficult English Channel crossing in the 1960s, when my dad thought it’d be cool to take the train to Dover from London, then the Dover/Calais ferry, and the train to Paris.
The google word significance score is always a fun tool to play with. I’m glad it’s not part of my profession, though, because I’d insist on something better and I’d want to know more about how the metric is generated.

Andreas Avester is having to deal with someone stealing his art and using it as a commercial logo. [http://blamscoon.e-monsite.com/] What’s sad is that they could have commissioned a logo from Andreas, like I did, and gotten a superb piece of art that they could use without headaches. But, people are just ignorant about copyright and, thanks to Google, youtube, Instagram, etc., it’s a huge problem for artists.
