John @1: That’s why it’s called “Pearls Before Swine” 😉
Matthew 7:6
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
John Moralessays
Dammit, Rob. I didn’t respond to Tabby, but… touché.
Ok, I easily got all the puns. What I don’t get is why they changed venue in the third panel and apparently introduced a third character to take the blows for the swine that actually made the pun.
Re-grits sound tasty.

ridana,
That is a running gag in the strip.
The new character is meant to represent the cartoonist Stephan Pastis who inserts himself into some strips. The last panel shows Rat or someone else berating him or beating him up for bad puns. The idea is that it is the cartoonist, and not the character who makes the pun, who is culpable.
John Morales says
I certainly don’t get it.
What’s the pun?
John Morales says
Ah, never mind. A bit of Googling fixed that. Old song lyrics.
(Seems rather forced to me)

Oh come on… some of you are too young… It is one of Frank Sinatra’s most famous songs: “I Did it My Way” 🙂
Tabby Lavalamp says
“Seems rather forced to me”
That’s the point of these strips.
