In my comments about the crowded Republican field last week, I said that Sarah Palin would not run (it’s too much work) but would drop hints that she might so that she could milk her deluded supporters to continue to support her in the style to which she has become accustomed.
And lo! it came to pass, even faster that I expected as she has started dropping hints about doing just that. This weekend saw some sort of gathering in Iowa for potential Republican hopefuls, hosted by Iowa congressperson Steve King, one of the crazies who stands out in a party of crazies. The event was graced by ten of the hopefuls (Christie, Walker, Perry, Huckabee, Cruz, Santorum, Fiorina, Carson, Trump, and Palin) though the two fighting for the role of establishment candidate (Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney) gave it a miss. They cited scheduling conflicts but more likely it was because they did not want to get caught in the crossfire of people trying to outdo each other in taking extremist positions.
But the highlight of the event, though not for the reasons that the organizers may have hoped for, was the speech by Palin. It turned out that her Teleprompter froze early on and this resulted in her speech being even more rambling and incoherent and riddled with non sequiturs than usual as she tried to cobble together a speech from the gaggle of voices in her head and a binder of notes.
There was much merriment in the land of Twitter as she left even her supporters in the audience puzzled as to what she was trying to say.
The Daily Mail has a collection of the choicest quotes from what it refers to as her 35-minute Teleprompter meltdown. Here’s a sample

What is ironic is that president Obama has been derided by his opponents (including Palin) as being someone whose only talent is giving smooth speeches and that also only with the aid of a Teleprompter. It is absolutely true that Obama knows how to use that device extremely well. But he has also spoken off the cuff many times and it is clear that his is an organized mind that can think and formulate well-framed sentences and ideas on the fly.

It’s just so astounding to me that woman has any supporters; she’s crude, she’s uneducated and proud of it, she’s quite probably either on drugs or profoundly mentally ill, and she’s not even a nice person. She’s a crappy parent, she’s a crappy politician, she’s not even a good Christian. Yet much of the midwest just adores her.
Interesting that Christie is willing to join the other wing-nuts. It goes to show how far he’s slid.

I find it amazing that she can use a teleprompter and not be attacked for it, when that is precisely what the right did (and may still do) to President Obama when he used one.
