Here is a video of an event. What do you think it was for? The answer is below the fold.
Believe it or not, it was part of a bar mitzvah, the coming of age ceremony when a Jewish boy at age 13 spiritually transitions to adulthood.
Some of these ceremonies, especially for children of wealthy parents have moved from solemn religious ceremonies to lavish spectacles of ostentation. I have been to bar and bat mitzvahs (the latter being the equivalent for girls) and have never seen anything like this.

it’s in Texas where everything is bigger and more obnoxious.

If it’s Texas, wouldn’t that make it Austin-tatious?

Hmm. My first guess was a campaign stop for Anthony Weiner. I guess I’m not very good at this game…

I used to work for an audio-visual company in Cleveland. In 2006 we were one of several contractors providing services for the bat mitzvah for the daughter of a prominent local real estate developer. The final tally was in excess of $750,000.
And they didn’t feed us.

I figured it was a Bar Mitzvah as soon as I saw the age of the kid, having already seen his name. Pretty silly. Some Hispanic parents go just about as far for their daughters’ 15th birthdays.
