It’s yet another example of how judges can ignore justice in favor of their feelings. In this case, a judge used prayer to justify letting a rapist go free.
A New York man who pleaded guilty to rape and sexual abuse for assaulting four teenage girls during parties at his parents’ home will not face jail time after a judge Tuesday sentenced him to eight years’ probation.
Niagara County Court Judge Matthew J. Murphy III said he “agonized” over the case of 20-year-old Christopher Belter, who was accused of committing the crimes when he was 16 or 17. Belter pleaded guilty in 2019 to felony charges that included third-degree rape and attempted first-degree sexual abuse, as well as two misdemeanor charges of second-degree sexual abuse.
Although Belter faced a maximum sentence of eight years in prison, Murphy concluded that time behind bars for the man “would be inappropriate.” The ruling shocked the courtroom.
“I’m not ashamed to say that I actually prayed over what is the appropriate sentence in this case because there was great pain. There was great harm. There were multiple crimes committed in the case,” Murphy said, according to WKBW. “It seems to me that a sentence that involves incarceration or partial incarceration isn’t appropriate, so I am going to sentence you to probation.”
Don’t worry, though. The rapist was white and from a wealthy, influential family, so you can trust that he’d never, ever do it again. And God said he was OK! Yeah, that’s how justice works in America. Yay.
Should be 8 years enforced celibacy. If you’re not going to lock him up, at least lock up his dick.
interesting, only because now whenever a judge tries to claim that they will be impartial to religion in their rulings, the defense say now say “Objection!” and quote THIS judge openly stating that his religion was a key factor in his decision.
This judge just made it official…the law is christian based and christian biased. No atheist or member of another religion can expect any fairness in their cases when it conflicts with christian morals, regardless of what the law says.

This was a mistrial whether or not any judicial body rules that it was.
Since it wasn’t an acquital, maybe the prosecution can appeal?

Some New York judges you don’t need any legal education at all, but NY County you need to be practicing law for 5 years before you can get elected.
So this is someone who’s been trained. Who still thinks the rule of law doesn’t apply to white boys.
IIRC the punishment God lays out in the Babble for raping a maiden isn’t probation, it’s that you must marry the raped woman.

The boy sounds like he is supreme court material. We expect to see him nominated in a decade or two.

The latest judge was just continuing the travisity after Christopher Belter broke terms of his probation, by watching porn on his computer.
How is this allowed as a term of probation? It’d be like banning someone from watching sports on TV, or from reading a certain genre of book.
Fucking obscenity laws make no damn sense in the context of the 1st Amendment.
I’m boiling over this as I have to live near this creep. ( well considering that I live in the city) . Women have no rights in this country any longer. We can’t even keep ourselves safe . Scares the crap out of me!
well sad to say he is young enough that there will be plenty of time for him to rape again and end up back in court, maybe it will be a case third time is the charm. he will be back in court again.
