    Idaho nurse who refused COVID vaccine dies: brother

    The mother.
    Daryl Rise told KXLY his mom was hospitalized with COVID pneumonia on Aug. 10 after a week of illness and trouble breathing. She was intubated and put into a medically induced coma.

    The daughter. Days later, his sister became ill and was hospitalized “right down the hall” from her mother.
    Even while in the hospital and receiving oxygen, the former nurse told her younger brother not to get vaccinated.
    Natalie Rise, a 46-year-old mother of 10-year-old twins with special needs, died Aug. 22 in Coeur D’Alene,

    The mother. The Idaho man said his mother, who is recovering and out of her coma, has not decided on whether to get vaccinated.

    The mother was in the ICU, in a coma, intubated.
    The daughter got sick and ended up in the ICU. Still antivax, dies. (Leaves two children behind.)
    The mother still isn’t sure about getting the vaccine.

    If almost dying and having your daughter die won’t change your mind, what will?

    This story does have half of a happy ending.
    The son. “I got it (the vaccine) out of fear,” he said.”
    One out of three isn’t too bad considering.

    Watching their family members, friends, and neighbors die doesn’t change a whole lot of antivaxxer minds.

    The antivaxxers do have other responses to medical care advice:

    From Idaho again.

    She (ICU doctor) thought of the abuse she’d received from one man’s angry family members, who had berated her for not treating him with ivermectin, a deworming drug falsely promoted as a cure in conspiracy circles but that the FDA has warned against using in COVID patients.
    She thought of how police had had to remove the man’s family after his son-in-law told her, “If you don’t do this, I have a lot of ways to get people to do something, and they’re all sitting in my gun safe at home.”

    If the hospital doctors don’t do what you say, threaten to kill them.

    With the current batch of Covid-19 virus deniers/antivaxxers filling up 95% of the hospital spaces, the health care staff get screamed at a lot, occasionally attacked by panicking patients, and screamed at some more by the patient’s families.
    Who knew that dying from an imaginary virus could be so traumatic anyway?

    What I do idly wonder about is treating them as violating the Geneva Protocol (which, in the modern interpretation, applies both domestically as well as internationally).

    My concern is that after mass deaths (suicide by stupidity), the fanatics will start claiming “Biden is euthanizing trumpkins!”

    If they’re capable of one form of rabid ignorance, then they’re capable of another.

    I’ve lived in Idaho most of my life, and it’s honestly disturbing how bad it it here. There’s more cases than we had last year. I’m honestly avoiding any hospital visits because I can’t even trust the nurses here

    Well, what would you do if you were a fire fighter and idiots were blocking access in and out of a burning building with people trapped inside?

    I’m not sure I’d much care if they were simple-minded dupes with the wrong idea.

    On the plus side, since none of the other options work, we can go back to ceaselessly berating them, which is at least cathartic.

    4- Not popular among people who want to get the rush of having “convinced” someone but….
    Wait for a celebrity they respect to say the thing you need to convince them of or wait for a critical mass of people they identify with to decide they agree with the science. Probably influenced by a celebrity.
    This is how people form beliefs. It sucks. Its stupid. But by not acknowledging it we are just wasting our time.

    It’s labelled a guide to convincing people. So while “actually talking to them”, you are either making an argument (which falls under 2), or not making an argument (which falls under 3).
