How do the little ones eat? Is there a spider equivalent to Mac and cheese?

It looks like the mother is reacting to them, but there is no parental care in this species, right? It’s interesting though how she seems to be hovering over them and noticing them.

There are degrees of parental care. This species definitely guards the egg sac, and they avoid consuming their offspring, but generally babies disperse so quickly that there isn’t really an opportunity for prolonged care.

They’ll eat small flies. They’re already making webs.

Derailing the thread for a different joyful announcement.
The last recorded covid death in Sweden took place Tuesday June 22th. A whole week without deaths….
And now back to the cute octopods (is it octopods? Or am I mixing greek and latin?).

@4 She certainly appears to be supervising the emergence, and perhaps acting to protect them initially? At one point she stops and seems to be doing something to two of them – I thought she was going to eat/crush them, but they emerged unscathed. Is it possible to work out what was going on there? Is she perhaps checking smell/behavior to be sure these definitely are her babies?
