The shocking demand is, of course, equal pay with her fellow actors. This is where feminism leads us, to a terrifying hellscape where women get paid the same as men.
Also, what’s really shocking is that there will be another Avengers movie. I thought we were done with the last one? Also with Star Wars? Do we really need another Avenger or Star War now?
I feel like there’s some context missing here. Am I not seeing a link?
From what I read, I’d guess that one of the lead actresses in/around Marvel is asking for equivalent $ in the next Avengers movie?
And posting that comment lead to the image loading for me. Before it had been missing (without even a ‘broken image’ icon.
This is Disney we’re talking about. They’ll continue to suck that well dry until they own every penny ever minted. May be, when the sun expands to consume the Earth, they’ll declare enough is enough. I wouldn’t necessarily count on it.
I thought the “new” Avengers movie was going to have all female heroes. Maybe it was just lies.
The worst part about this is that there are bound to be people out there saying “They cast a woman for the role! Isn’t that enough for these feminists? They’re always so demanding”.
Of course there’s going to be another Avengers movie. There are a lot of different Avengers teams. (Great Lakes Avengers, anyone?)

Maybe if they pay her equally they will feel that they have to give her a role that requires her skills as an actor. We can hope…..
The finished “phase one”, but they never intended to stop there, AFAIK. It’s mainly “Endgame” for the characters that got killed off (and stayed dead).
As long as they keep making money…
If they keep up the same quality, I’ll keep watching them. =)
I enjoy them quite a bit.
I also look forward to them exploring more obscure characters and hope they branch out into more non-white male heroes.

@Susan Montgomery, #5: You’ve got a point. I remember people (mostly men, also probably mostly right wing white supremacist men) complaining about Wonder Woman because of a female hero when only men are supposed to be heroes.
This whole thing ought to have been cleared up with a wave of lawsuits in the 80’s, except that the studio system remains in the hands of people like Harvey Weinstein – who, I suspect, was never likely to take a stand for women’s rights.
@ 5 & 15: And all the trolls who flooded Rotten Tomatoes with negative reviews of Captain Marvel two weeks before the film was even out.
Easy solution: no girls in movies, therefore no problems with equal pay. More guns and aliens and people dying without getting hurt and more guns and explosions.

The movie industry is not exactly the perfect place to use as example of equal pay for equal work, in cases where every actor has individual contract. Different amount of screen part and different star power (which is a huge factor in determining how much to pay) means every actor may have different contract.
I remember an example of the Force Awakens when some woke people were outraged that Daisy Ridley gets less money for the movie than Harrison Ford – well, at that point she could be easily replaced and no one would care, while he could dictate the terms as he wanted, he was must have for Disney.
In example of Brie Larsen and Endgame I would not be surprised if Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans or Scarlett Johansson got more money than Brie Larsen (more established in MCU and more on-screen time).
That being said, equal pay for Brie and her male counterparts is not shocking demand, is reasonable expectation.

I hadn’t heard anything like that. I assumed that Luke Cage and Spiderman would both be in the next Avengers squad. In the comics, after all, LC, Wolverine & Spidey headlined a team shortly after Iron Man left the team. I mean, I wasn’t expecting it, but I do think it would be cool to have an Avengers squad composed of all women. It has happened in the past that there have been all-men lineups, so there shouldn’t be a problem with one or two all-women lineups, right?
I looked up the article, and the must have changed it, because it no longer says “shocking demands” The headline now says:
“Captain Marvel Brie Larson Has Some Demands to Return for ‘Avengers 5’”
They must have gotten shit over it and changed the article.
I only see one demand: equal pay. The last sentence led me to believe they’d detail stuff like mansion-sized trailers, an Olympic-sized pool for her own personal use staffed by 5 cabana-boys, also for her own personal use, and peeled grapes.
I even looked it up. Nope, just equal pay. I’m shocked, shocked!

Equal pay in Hollywood is difficult because actors are generally paid according to their perceived box office draw. Problem is, this is a perfect system for covering discriminatory practices.

There’s this bit in Avengers: Endgame where they get all the women superheroes to line up and be big and heroic for a moment. Literally the first thing I thought when I saw that was, “I wonder how much less they’re being paid. God I hate being right.

Yes, that’s an interesting question, isn’t it? But the LC show is now done – Netflix can’t make or release any new Marvel content since the advent of Disney+ streaming. Given that there can’t be any more Netflix Defenders-characters shows, I have to wonder if LC might then become available.
And if it did, would they still use the same actor? I thought he brought a wonderful mix of the open-hearted caring aspects of LC with the intense, “I’m gonna beat you to a pulp” apexes without ever threatening to slip into Wolverine-like “I’m gonna kill you” rages. You believed that he was living his values and that he had enough self-control that he could defend the weak without ever becoming a tyrant or Punisher-type character.
I mean, I’m sure that there are other good actors out there, but Mike Colter did a great job, and I believe in rewarding a person when they do a great job, so I’d love to see him continue the role on the big screen if possible.

Congratulations to Brie Larsen and her AGENT. If I were in the business and had the money, I’d take out a full page ad in Variety to celebrate if she gets the deal. She could get an executive producer credit too. Olivia de Havilland took on the whole studio system and won. This is how things get changed. Of course, it’s outrageous. It’s Hollywood.
Good for Disney and Marvel cranking out new episodes. Think of it as Avengers, season 5. No one is griping about Marvel still cranking out comic books with Avengers stories in them. Why gripe about another movie, unless it is seriously god awful?
