Was that really the best photo they could find to put on a billboard?

It’s bad enough they’re equating him to Jesus, but did they have to go with the gape-jawed goofy-eyed look with his tiny hand waving about?

I’m not necessarily one for scripture, but…
    Matthew 25
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

According to their book, they’re all hellbound. It’s not often that I hope for their fantasies to be accurate.

Anne @2: That poem was referenced widely when Dubya took office, but Trump is a much better fit than the clueless frat boy ever was. The Age of the Grifter has been with us for decades, but it’s really hit its stride with the lethal combination of ignorance and social media. See Jordan Peterson etc, ad nauseam.

And the Flesh was insufficient, so it was augmented with many, many well done steaks covered in ketchup.

    Heresy? This is idolatry.

[1] And God spake all these words, saying,
[2] I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
[3] Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
[4] Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
    [5] Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
[6] And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

It’s from their own book, just like what Athywren quoted.
If only they could live up to their own rules.

    the word: Convfefe.

Interesting /s how easy it is to misinterpret these lines when isolated, out of context like this. While there is a continual debate about whether contradiction exist within the book. It easy though to present a quote opposing the first. EG (whatabout) the part in the bibble about a “false prophet” rising up, that many people are deceived into believing is the new incarnation of The Messiah? My Atheism says this is much more apt metaphor for that thing in office aka “45”

The Swedish word “fläsk” has the same root as “flesh” and usually means rather grease-rich pork meat.
The excessive fat that is visible on an overweight person is colloquially called “fläsk”.
So from a Swedish point of view, it is apt, although rather rude.

All the best people say that I’m the word made flesh. It’s very kind of them. Are they right? Well, I’m not going to say they’re wrong. They’re very smart, they know all kinds of things about words. They know all the very best words, just like me. But I will say this: All of those other gods are FAKE. Fake. Gods!

This seems sincere https://www.facebook.com/OccupyDemocrats/photos/a.517901514969574/2383098131783227/?type=3&theater so people do think these insane ideas.

But 5 years ago I would have assumed this billboard was an anti-trump critique of his self-idolatry and possible even a sincere claim that Trump is a false propher/anti-christ. But not any more. If it is, it gives the viewers of the billboard too much credit.

I …. do not understand Trump Evangelicals at all.

Easy, once you realize that it’s politics first, religion second…. always.

As you say, any self-identified Christian who supports Trump is not following their religion’s moral code — Trump violates Christian norms on an hourly basis — instead they’re using their religious identity as a socio-political flag.
