“Not visible: the snow is coming down sideways.”
That has potential to be a haiku or a Zen koan.

Invisible sideways snow. The mildly deranged penguin diagnoses a case of possible walrus. Almost any type of cheese will treat the condition, except the kinds with holes — which should be avoided until the snow is neither invisible nor sideways, and the patient can distinguish between holes-in-the-cheese and the cheese. There will probably, however, still be walruses.

The view doesn’t look that bad to me. But then I live somewhere that averages less than half an inch of snow per winter.

Why do I have an office window?

So you’ll know not to go outside?

I much prefer straight snow to what what is headed my way in Chiwaukee. Rain, followed by snow/sleet overnight.

We had quite the snowstorm in Bismarck, ND today too. Was bad enough to close some of the schools. Not all of them though, because that’s North Dakota for you.

Its a brilliant sunny day here in Calgary, but unfortunately its still -12°C so the massive piles of snow aren’t going away. The sun reflecting off the snow is making it blindingly bright out. You can get frostbite and a sunburn all at the same time!

That’s a familiar view. In Almont, the wind is on the ferocious side. Usually heavier than in Bismarck.

We just had a 30° rise in temperatures from -16°C 4 nights ago to 14°C this afternoon. The yetis have been replaced by butterflies and the birds cannot decide whether it is still winter and they want to have food or spring and they want to have sex.

That’s at least half an inch(what’s that?) more than were I am, albeit last week we did get some snow. Not much and it melted immediately (at least in the village centre). This was due largely to the same weather system mentioned previously, also with big swings (for the area) in the temperature — I think it actually dropped below freezing (just) one night. This week is apparently going to be near-continuous rain…

Why did you go to work in that crap?

He had to thaw out a few students to feed the zebrafish.

    (Ambiguity intentional.)

  12. Tethys says

The hard rain and thunder went through last night, and I too have the high wind and sideways snowing thing. I’m hoping the 40 mph winds would blow the snow off the 1/4″ of ice that is now encasing all the pavement.

Why did you go to work in that crap?

Because staying in the house from December until April really isn’t an option? We just drive slowly, though some schools did close because ice roads and high winds make buses exceptionally difficult to drive.

Snow “coming down sideways”: Snow had evidently found the elusive Kaluza-Klein fourth spacial dimension.

I *wish* I had a window at work. I’m a prisoner in a fluorescent lighted hell during working hours.

That’s a lovely view to me. As a resident of Florida for the last 40 yrs, I really want to vacation somewhere nice and snowy. Even the year I was in Germany we only got two or three light dustings of snow. Winter was mostly mud and ice. (In all fairness though, I did freak out at that first look out of the window and seeing everything covered in white, thin as it might have been)
