UPDATE: Ed Mullins has resigned his position, at the request of SBA’s board. The original Daily News article has also been updated with this paragraph:
[Mullins] is an outspoken backer of President Donald Trump and visited Trump at the White House in February 2020. He grabbed headlines in July 2020 for giving an interview on Fox News with a QAnon coffee mug in the background.
Quelle surprise.

Now here’s something you don’t see every day.
FBI raids suburban home of NYPD sergeants’ union head Ed Mullins and Manhattan headquarters

Federal investigators descended Tuesday on the Long Island home of controversial Sergeants Benevolent Association president Ed Mullins in a sweep that also targeted the police union’s Lower Manhattan headquarters, the Daily News has learned.
While the details of the probe remained under wraps, an FBI spokeswoman confirmed to The News that the agency was “carrying out a law enforcement action in connection with an ongoing investigation” into the SBA.
“Ed Mullins, who famously called me a ‘first-class whore’ for daring to ask questions about the SBA, just got a first-class raid from the FBI,” tweeted Rep. Ritchie Torres as word of the raids spread.
I’m no detective, but this sure has all the hallmarks of a textbook case of testosterone poisoning to me. Also, who the fuck is Ritchie Torres?
Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY15)
Well, Ritchie Torres is the U.S. Representative for New York’s 15th congressional district, which covers most of the South Bronx. Upon taking office in January of this year, he and Mondaire Jones (D-NY17) became the first openly gay Black men elected to Congress. Before his congressional run, Torres served a few terms as a New York City Councilmember.*
Anyway:
A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York declined to comment as to the purpose of the raids or its target.
The union is headed by Mullins, a brash leader known for his over-the-top social media attacks on NYPD leadership and Mayor de Blasio. Mullins, a member of the NYPD since January 1982, took over as head of the SBA on July 1, 2002.
“No comment for now,” said Mullins’ lawyer Andrew Quinn about the morning raid. The typically outspoken Mullins could not immediately be reached for a response.
Mullins was already facing an internal NYPD probe over his bigoted and profane statements on Twitter.
He seems nice.
De Blasio, at an unrelated news conference shortly after the raid, said he had no further details on what happened before unloading on Mullins.
“A lot of what he’s done has been really, really destructive — especially in the middle of a crisis where we’re trying to unify and we’re trying to get through together. I think he’s been a divisive voice … All I hear is the FBI raid. I want to hear the details before I comment further.”
In another instance during the pandemic, Mullins tweeted that the city’s health commissioner was a “b—h” who had “blood on her hands” after she sparred with the NYPD over half a million hospital-grade face masks.
You mean he’s not just bigoted, he’s a misogynist too?! Wow. I mean, we hardly EVER see that! This does, however, lend further credence to my testosterone poisoning diagnosis.
In a piece written earlier this summer for the MailOnline, the Greenwich Village native tore into the soon-to-depart mayor’s two terms in City Hall.
“Since first taking office in 2014, de Blasio’s incendiary anti-police rhetoric has already resulted in three police officers being executed while sitting in police vehicles, Molotov cocktails being lobbed at officers and into police vehicles, armed assaults on police facilities, cops being pelted with debris, and wholesale damage to police and public property,” he wrote.
Okay, Mayor de Blasio is NOT to blame for any of that. For one thing, he’s far too incompetent. Could it be the result of, oh I dunno, perhaps the history of police murdering Black people with impunity?
Mullins represents 11,000 members and serves as the union’s chief spokesman, weighing in frequently on a variety of issues.
I am sure his insights are thoughtful and wise.
TL;dr: The FBI is raiding the NYPD’s police union headquarters and the home of its leader, and no one is saying why. I don’t know about you, but I for one cannot wait to find out.

*Calling New York City Councilmembers “whores” is a grave insult to sex workers (and sluts like me) everywhere. It’s common knowledge that the New York City Council and the Mayor’s office are wholly owned subsidiaries of Big Real Estate Development. (Our “socialist” mayor has presided over the sale of the city’s stock of public housing to private real estate companies, with entirely predictable and disastrous results. Let that one sink in for a minute.) But of the lot of city politicians, Mr. Torres seems far from the worst. While it was almost certainly an entirely doomed endeavor from the start, he championed the cause of affordable housing during his Council stint. It may have had something to do with his having been “raised by a single mother who had to raise three children on minimum wage” and “lived in conditions of mold and vermin, lead and leaks.” NO ONE should live like that, especially not here in (what we are continually told is) “the wealthiest country in the world.”

If he’s writing for the MailonLine he’s a shit quite apart from anything else he’s done, and it sounds like he’s done plenty.

affordable housing, in the places that still have, is lead, leaks, mold, etc. it’s the projects. it needs to be better and more plentiful – or cities need to implement rent control on a massive level – or we all need to be paid much more. as a society we can make those decisions, but the longer they’re delayed, the closer we get to widespread destruction and revolution.

That will never happen. By this point, most people are too numb for it. And even if it does happen, the revolutionaries will immediately be massacred by the powerful and their paid supporters. Only collective mass suicide could help us, if only people weren’t so inexplicably attached to this awful existence. I will never understand people who like to be alive, as my death is the only thing I’ve ever truly Iooked forward to, and which I will precipitate at the right opportunity.
