Dear Pastor Tom

Hey there! How’s it going? Oh, don’t seem surprised – I know you’re subscribed to my blog since twice now you’ve written a rebuttal to my posts within 24 hours of my original posts. I just want to say it’s incredibly cute how you’re too afraid to mention my name or link to my blog lest someone read an alternative opinion and make their own decisions. I mean, we don’t want people thinking or coming to their own conclusions, do we? I giggle every time you make up a new excuse to not name me, like:

“Many atheist bloggers have expressed joy over this, but it’s not worth taking the time to tell you about any more of them.”

and

“because I don’t subscribe to the language and advertising on the blogs that are defending pornography, I’m not going to give any links, and will not permit any to be posted on this blog.”

But please don’t stop. I get a certain amount of glee knowing someone feels so intimidated by my arguments – must mean I’m explaining my points really well! And what an honor that you’ll mention Pharyngula and Friendly Atheist all the time, but Blag Hag is just too much of a threat! I am a little disappointed, though, that you didn’t come up with some witty pun of my blog to put under your “Evil Sites” links like PharyTales or Hateful Atheist. Can I suggest “She Who Must Not Be Named?”

Your favorite atheist blogger,
Jen

He's obviously intimidated by strong independent women. That's why he is afraid of you and is so anti-porn. The fact that women can be equals (or betters) scares him right down to the bone.

I went and looked at that guy's blog…did I miss it or is he yet another Christian who doesn't allow comments on his "articles?" I love declaring he will allow no links to your blog!

Congrats on scaring the idiot into censorship!

Lol, Jen, I was hoping you'd make a thread like this! Just wait ’til I finish writing my own (considerably bulky) post on this whole affair. (’Cause you just know I couldn’t resist, could I?)

@Stephan:He used to allow comments, until he first banned atheists, and then simply disallowed commenting altogether. Typical dishonest hypocrite.

One can only hope his next post starts out with "Some atheists (who i won't tell you about) challenge us True Christians to be mature and reasonable, but because of the glorious faith we cling to, I will not give in to these people (who I won't mention)."

Oh dear, twitterers (wtf do I call them?) are saying he's stalking me again. I don't think I consider subscribing to a blog and commenting on it without linking to it stalkerly, and I don't condone using the term to stir up controversy. Stalkerly, no. Intellectually dishonest, yes.

Sorry, that was me on Twitter. I shouldn't have used the word "stalk" I guess but I couldn't think of any other word to describe someone talking about you behind your back while completely avoiding all mentions of your name. It's kinda hard to sum all of that up with 140 characters.

That's okay Rev – I, being a rational being, understand. Just wanted to make my views clear for certain people who like to refer to me as a "maniacly insane blogger"

I've now finished my own “little” rebuttal to Pastor Tom’s amalgamation of stupidity, ignorance and dishonesty that passes for a blog post. (But then, that last phrase encompasses his entire blog, so that’s not saying much.)

Overall, it really is amazing how he can spend so much time and effort attacking atheists wherever he goes whilst simultaneously not having a damned idea about who they are or what they do, and whilst being so utterly, blindingly hypocritical as to such in every atom of honesty for miles around.

(Wait … I may have tried too hard there.)

Dun care about the clichéd phrase, but: keep up the good work, Jen! =)

    Damn, forgot to add:

@BenYitzhak:Technically, a holiday is just a day designated to celebrate something. Why wouldn’t blaspheming against the ugliness of religion be something worth celebrating?

Jen, the good pastor seems to be cut from the same cloth that would support female genitalia mutilation to prevent women from having any sexuality at all. A Woman's mojo is much stronger than a mans apparently and should be suppressed by any means.

Ben, Blasphemy Day is indeed worthy of being deemed a holiday if you believe that free speech is sacred. Blasphemy and dissent against governmental authority are the two most quintessential acts of free speech available to us since it is religious and political authorities alone from whom anyone has ever had to worry about coercion against the right of free speech.

So, yes, if you believe that nothing is sacred except free speech itself (as Pat Condell argues http://camelswithhammers.com/2009/06/30/free-speech-is-sacred/) then the only true holy day on the calendar is the day in which you celebrate free speech itself by exercising it in defiance of those forces of authoritarianism who blaspheme against freedom by inventing the concept of a blasphemy in the first place.

Interesting point Camels with Hammers, but I don't know that I agree. Free Speech is incredibly important, perhaps essential, but I hesitate to use the word sacred.

Nah, “She Who Must Not Be Named” is too long. Most obvious choice is …

    “Blog Hag”

Trust me, it’s really derogatory if used by him. =P Plus, it has something to do with the blog’s name. ;-)

Which, of course, means Tom Estes definitely will find a correlation. Win! =P

Michael, I saw the forums, but I was speaking of the articles themselves. Apparently when he turned off comments, he also removed the ability to see any of the old comments as well…so when he claims it was all just personal attacks, we have no evidence to check his claims. From what I see in the forums, it appears that the atheists and rationalists are pointing out real errors while being mean sometimes. But I don't think that is a bad thing. Sometimes kids need belief in Santa Claus mocked to stop believing nonsense.

    Jen,

If the anti-porn rally taught you anything, it should be that Tom's crowd will just refer to you as "that atheist girl."

Cause, you know, you are the only one, right? =P

Jen, I have been reading and commenting over at Pastor T.Estes train wreak just because I can't help myself. But I want to congratulate you on your level head and maturity during this whole business. You stand in stark contrast to him and you should be very proud.

On a personal note, I have a daughter who will begin to look at colleges soon. Strong organizations like yours will now be added to the search criteria.

Jen, as you know, you are performing an invaluable service. I'm a former pastor myself and still speak mostly to religious audiences (I've spoken to more than a thousand groups in the last 8 years). I am the author of "Thank God for Evolution", which has been endorsed by 6 Nobel laureates and other science luminaries (including noted skeptics and atheists) and by religious leaders across the spectrum.

I was diagnosed with advanced lymphoma a couple of weeks ago (rather large tumor in my spleen) and for a few days thought I might die soon. My oncologist now says there's a decent chance that I'll survive this (with chemotherapy and radiation or surgery), but before I learned this I recorded a podcast: "The New Atheists: Modern-Day Prophets". It came to me when I asked myself the question, "If I had only one message left to communicate before I die, what would it be?" My intended audience is, of course, religious folk. Since I'm encouraging them to take atheists like yourself very seriously (not to argue with but to learn: "to hear the voice of reality speaking"), I thought you might enjoy most if not all of it. Feel free to pass it on to your religious friends if you think it will do any good.

Horses beat crazies every day. They have more sense in them as long as they're raised right.

Jen: That's a hoot that he no longer allows comments on his blog. Guess he got tired of having his ass handed to him, especially after his brilliant comment "Christians didn't own slaves. A slave was someone who couldn't pay off a debt with money, so they paid it off with work. When the debt was paid, the slave was free. And every 50 years, all slaves were given a clean slate wheither they still owed money or not. Even if they had sold their property to pay off a debt, the property was given back". After I picked my jaw off the floor I enjoyed the comments. Then he was posted on FSTDT.net and is getting slammed there.

Love the fact he won't link to you. You must be a really scary woman.
