Hey there! How’s it going? Oh, don’t seem surprised – I know you’re subscribed to my blog since twice now you’ve written a rebuttal to my posts within 24 hours of my original posts. I just want to say it’s incredibly cute how you’re too afraid to mention my name or link to my blog lest someone read an alternative opinion and make their own decisions. I mean, we don’t want people thinking or coming to their own conclusions, do we? I giggle every time you make up a new excuse to not name me, like:
“Many atheist bloggers have expressed joy over this, but it’s not worth taking the time to tell you about any more of them.”
and
“because I don’t subscribe to the language and advertising on the blogs that are defending pornography, I’m not going to give any links, and will not permit any to be posted on this blog.”
But please don’t stop. I get a certain amount of glee knowing someone feels so intimidated by my arguments – must mean I’m explaining my points really well! And what an honor that you’ll mention Pharyngula and Friendly Atheist all the time, but Blag Hag is just too much of a threat! I am a little disappointed, though, that you didn’t come up with some witty pun of my blog to put under your “Evil Sites” links like PharyTales or Hateful Atheist. Can I suggest “She Who Must Not Be Named?”
Your favorite atheist blogger,
Jen

I've now finished my own “little” rebuttal to Pastor Tom’s amalgamation of stupidity, ignorance and dishonesty that passes for a blog post. (But then, that last phrase encompasses his entire blog, so that’s not saying much.)
Overall, it really is amazing how he can spend so much time and effort attacking atheists wherever he goes whilst simultaneously not having a damned idea about who they are or what they do, and whilst being so utterly, blindingly hypocritical as to such in every atom of honesty for miles around.
(Wait … I may have tried too hard there.)
Dun care about the clichéd phrase, but: keep up the good work, Jen! =)

Camels With Hammers says
Ben, Blasphemy Day is indeed worthy of being deemed a holiday if you believe that free speech is sacred. Blasphemy and dissent against governmental authority are the two most quintessential acts of free speech available to us since it is religious and political authorities alone from whom anyone has ever had to worry about coercion against the right of free speech.
So, yes, if you believe that nothing is sacred except free speech itself (as Pat Condell argues http://camelswithhammers.com/2009/06/30/free-speech-is-sacred/) then the only true holy day on the calendar is the day in which you celebrate free speech itself by exercising it in defiance of those forces of authoritarianism who blaspheme against freedom by inventing the concept of a blasphemy in the first place.

Interesting point Camels with Hammers, but I don't know that I agree. Free Speech is incredibly important, perhaps essential, but I hesitate to use the word sacred.

Michael, I saw the forums, but I was speaking of the articles themselves. Apparently when he turned off comments, he also removed the ability to see any of the old comments as well…so when he claims it was all just personal attacks, we have no evidence to check his claims. From what I see in the forums, it appears that the atheists and rationalists are pointing out real errors while being mean sometimes. But I don't think that is a bad thing. Sometimes kids need belief in Santa Claus mocked to stop believing nonsense.

Jen, as you know, you are performing an invaluable service. I'm a former pastor myself and still speak mostly to religious audiences (I've spoken to more than a thousand groups in the last 8 years). I am the author of "Thank God for Evolution", which has been endorsed by 6 Nobel laureates and other science luminaries (including noted skeptics and atheists) and by religious leaders across the spectrum.
I was diagnosed with advanced lymphoma a couple of weeks ago (rather large tumor in my spleen) and for a few days thought I might die soon. My oncologist now says there's a decent chance that I'll survive this (with chemotherapy and radiation or surgery), but before I learned this I recorded a podcast: "The New Atheists: Modern-Day Prophets". It came to me when I asked myself the question, "If I had only one message left to communicate before I die, what would it be?" My intended audience is, of course, religious folk. Since I'm encouraging them to take atheists like yourself very seriously (not to argue with but to learn: "to hear the voice of reality speaking"), I thought you might enjoy most if not all of it. Feel free to pass it on to your religious friends if you think it will do any good.
