I know it’s not what the book is about but the title reminds me of the Hans Christian Andersen story “The Nightingale” which bugged the crap out of me as a child because I knew very well that it’s not the female bird that sings! Despite this people always associate a woman with a nightingale singing. Weird.
That is a very unlikely Japanese name.
@chigau, #2: It’s a pseudonym. The author was a woman but thought people would like her better if she were thought of as a man. Also, I think she was maybe part Chinese? But at that time in history, people had a better feeling about Japanese people than they did Chinese people, so she chose a Japanese-sounding name. Apparently she knew what it meant… or what she wanted it to mean, anyway.
