The light in the first picture is incredible. What a pretty place. I was thinking it would be a good place to canoe, but that water looks a bit choppy.
Thank you! The light on that reed shot was magical. It was quite windy the day we were there, and yes, the water was quite choppy, but there are several places which are great for canoeing, and Rick had made noises that day about wishing we had the canoe with us. It was a gorgeous day today, and on the way home, we saw kayakers out at Crown Butte, and we both sighed, it would have been a perfect day to go canoe. We won’t be able to anything like that until at least August, but maybe we’ll be able to get out at least once.
The first picture is not a reed, but some species of horsetail Equisetum.
I love the third picture, but it makes me sneeze even over the internet.

I am not a botanist, but I think that the “Reed” is actually a horsetail, an interesting group of plants long thought to be an early offshoot of the vascular plants, but now believed to be a very unusual branch of the ferns.

Yes, it’s Horsetail, which grows like crazy around here, it’s everywhere, along with Cattails. ‘Reed’ is just nDakota shorthand, so to speak.
I have quite a few recipes for cattails, we’ll have to do some harvesting this year.
The grass photo is beautiful and feathery, but I do like the horsetail more. The stem is translucent green, it glows.
I love the yucca seed head remains.
