Lily of the valley. Beautiful and
poisonous. In Finnish, kielo.

I can almost smell them!
I love lily of the valley, but don’t have any. However my SiL has a congested bed and is going to give me lots come autumn. I am giving her lots of snowdrops, so we will both be happy. Well if she can keep BiL from ‘helping’ in the garden, he doesn’t know what to do, doesn’t ask what to do and the consequences of his actions tend to be long term He ‘cleared’ the bed her snowdrops were in, and the liliy of the valley are in, destorying all of the snowdrops and, she thought, the lily of the valley too. SiL had got the lily of the valley from MiL who died last year and was very upset about their destruction, BiL may finally have got the message that going out and clearing every growing thing to soil level isn’t gardeing.

Ah. I immediately thought of wine when I read the title.

I love lily of the valley. My mother used to grow them and they were quite prolific. We often gave some away to friends and neighbours. My mom used to place the blooms in juice glasses all around the house. I can almost smell them now.
They came with the house and I’m glad the kids are old enough to understand the concept of “poisonous plants” because the berries are such a pretty red.
