I have long had a deep contempt for senator Lindsey Graham. He is like the late John McCain, an extreme warmonger who pretends to be an independent person but when it comes to actions is an utterly dependable, extreme rightwing Republican party apparatchik. He is matched only by former senator Joe Lieberman in the ability to get favorable media attention by uttering sanctimonious pieties while advancing odious policies. No wonder the three of them were such close friends.

True to form, he has said that it does not matter what happens at the senate judiciary hearings on the charges brought by Christine Blasey Ford against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, he will vote in favor of him. In giving his reasons why, he invokes legalities but in the process reveals the extreme sense of entitlement such people have.

“You can’t bring it in a criminal court, you would never sue civilly, you couldn’t even get a warrant,” Graham said on “Fox News Sunday” with Chris Wallace. “What am I supposed to do? Go ahead and ruin this guy’s life based on an accusation? I don’t know when it happened, I don’t know where it happened, and everybody named in regard to being there said it didn’t happen.”

Ruin his life? Graham is willing to risk placing a sexual abuser and attempted rapist on the nation’s highest court because to not do so would ‘ruin his life’? Kavanaugh is in no danger of going to prison. If he does not become a Supreme Court judge, he will still have a lifetime appointment to the Appeals Court. But for the people who belong to the entitled class, not getting their way is to be ruined.
