Howard Kurtz on his show on Fox News once again brings up the idea that by going to the White House twice, Jon Stewart has proved that he is a stooge for president Obama. Kurtz should have known better because there is nothing that seems to get Stewart’s energy up than taking Fox News hypocrisy and flinging it back in their faces and he has a grand old time here, showing Kurtz how a takedown should be done and in the process revealing Kurtz’s own hackery.

It’s just staggering how unaware they seem to be. I say ‘seem’ because some part of me still thinks they must know just how dishonest they are because of how blatant they are… but then they cluelessly take on people with intelligence as if expecting to win.
Is there anything to the idea that approving uses of the phrase “taking X to the woodshed” whitewash child abuse?
It seems to me that it might, although I’m happy to be corrected. Indeed I’m not even certain of the etymology.
Jesus you would have thought by now they would have learned to stop picking a fight with Stewart. I feel like Jon could do this all day.

Since Faux Snooze viewers don’t A—watch Jon Stewart and B—read Mano’s blog, they are completely unaware of any errors on the part of their most trusted news source. In the viewers’ minds, Fox is destroying Stewart.

It never crossed my mind that it might have its origin in child abuse. I looked into it and the general consensus is that it now means to administer punishment, usually privately, which means my use was inappropriate here since Stewart’s was as public as you can get.
Only one source suggested an etymology that said that it may have originated in taking a child to a place for a private spanking.
