Not sure what you’re saying here. Is this Rich Powell guy either imitating or modifying Scott Adams’s strips? Is this a one-off or a regular thing?

  2. says

I don’t know, maybe it’s an improvement. Kind of stark and uninteresting, though.
Sort of like the old strip Nancy, if, say, Nancy had a stroke and was in a coma. Hilarity does not ensue.

@feralboy12, # 6: I remember seeing Ernie Bushmiller’s name on a list of people dolphins are definitely smarter than. (From an old Saturday Night Live episode from the 1970’s)

Back in the mid-90s, I actually had a couple of pleasant conversations with Scott Adams via email. I don’t know if he was less of an asshat back then, or just hid it a whole lot better.

Didn’t he have a stroke or something of that nature some years back? While not an excuse for recent behavior (plenty of people don’t suddenly become racist due to a stroke), I do know that depending on the nature of the stroke and where it hits, it can massively alter a person’s personality along with other effects….

    @11:

‘Dilbert’ creator recovers from rare disorder
    Oct. 27, 2006
spasmodic dysphonia … “People who have this problem are tremendously socially handicapped. They look normal and may even say one or two normal words, but they have facial grimaces and they stutter and people think they’re having a stroke. Society is very cruel toward them.”

    So… no.

  7. killyosaur says

K, Couldn’t remember, knew it was some brain issue or other. Then again I haven’t followed Dilbert or Scott Adams in over a decade.

@Raging Bee, considering I haven’t bothered with Dawkins since he decided to weigh in on Elevatorgate, thus firmly placing his foot in his mouth and never removing it, I would not know if he had a stroke or not…

kingoftown @8: One of those strips has Dilbert putting Dogbert down — “I can’t afford to keep you, old buddy.” I would suggest another cartoon where Catbert does (and says) the same thing to Dilbert. Catbert is, after all, the evil HR director.

    Funny.

And that’s just a thumbs-up to the post in place of a real thumbs-up button I could hit and be on my lazy way without having to get verbose.

I know. “Well, what about a thumbs-down button you academic nazi?” Standard response should be to ask them to leave a written comment so you can better understand their objections.

Nah, you probably get enough weird replies.

@Raging Bee, one would also need to eventually invoke the Small Penis Rule in the parody.
Given how frequently parody is now litigated, make Adams stand before the court and proclaim proudly, “Your honor, this is obviously about me, for indeed, I have a small penis!”.
When drives a nail home, one does so fully or shouldn’t even bother.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_penis_rule

@azpaul3, perhaps a thumbs numbered scale?
    I’ll just get my jacket…
    Bouncer! My check, please.

@13 Scott Adams has Arseburger’s syndrome. A rare neurological order whereby suffers claim to be autistic in order to hide their rampant arseholery.

  12. epawtows says

Scott Adams was more laid back in the 90’s. He had a cameo on “Babylon 5” (Gerabaldi interviewed a human trader who thought this dog was plotting to take over the universe).

  13. Akira MacKenzie says

    @ 22

As I recall, the Minbari female who’s with him was his real-life spouse.

  14. birgerjohansson says

He had somerhing that caused aphasia. I have no idea of the effects on personality.
    .
Having said that, the characters Dogbert and Catbert transcends Scott
Adams regardless of what copyright law might say, especially now when Adams himself has turned into a cartoon villain.

För as long as I live, clever evil guys will be Catbert and stupid evil guys will be the pointy-haired boss.
DeSantis would be the former, Trump would be the latter.

    WONDERFUL!

Every once in a while I try the New Yorker crossword caption contest, and realize that being a great cartoonist really is a quirky, amazing gift. This is just more proof. I couldn’t come up with it in 1000 years, and yet it is just chef’s kiss.

  16. hillaryrettig1 says

@epawtows – while I always appreciate a good dog reference and REALLY appreciate a great Babylon 5 reference, the actor who played Garibaldi was himself a noted rw asshole, so maybe not great evidence of a less ahole-ish past.

I heard Adams speak at a corporate function, once – this would have been at about the same time – and he was benign, but otoh he was singing for his supper.

  17. hillaryrettig1 says

@SteveoR – also mine! Babylon 5 rules, and was so far ahead of its time on so many levels!
