Last year, I photographed bumblebees on lavender. This year, it was much less frequented but still abuzz with all kinds of bees. You can really see how much less insects are around.
I happened to open this posting just as I was reading about the collapse of US bird population. Apparently we’re down almost 1/3 of the total bird population in the last decade. We are so fucked.

I just saw on the other day news that neonicotinoids make birds less hungry, so they don’t eat enough before migrations.

I can’t say I’ve noticed much of a difference locally regarding either insect or bird populations, but the news are alarming. I installed a few drinking spots for birds and I’m doing my best to make my garden as bee friendly as possible but… yeah, in the long run, we are pretty much fucked.
