It’s time for another chapter in Ice Swimmer’s series.
Chapter 7 – Ponds on the Rocks on Sunday (1)
There are ponds in the western and southwestern parts of Harakka, on the rocks. Heather, mosses and lichens are typical plants/life on the rocks in Finland. As there are so many birches, there has to be enough water for in normal years. Summer 2018 was exceptionally dry and left many birches on the island without sufficient water, so they had brown leaves in July.
I love reflections.
While the pond is relatively large, it is nothing compared to the sea that connects us all.
They can be on different elevations. If it hadn’t been a very dry year, I wonder if there would have been brooks between the ponds. Some of the water must seep through the cracks in the rocks, though.
It was a warm and sunny day, not very autumnal, but the light isn’t summer light. It’s quite sideways.
Next time is the second part of the ponds on the rocks.
Jazzlet says
Oh they are lovely, the rocks and the still water, the mosses and the reeds the heather and the birches.

This set of photos is stunning, Ice Swimmer. The light is perfectly clear and has such a nice, rosy glow to it.and the colours look so rich. I especially like the contrast of the fiery trees and plants set against the cool blue of the sky and water.
Every single photo would look fabulous hung upon a wall so I shouldn’t pick favourites, but I confess that the third photo, Pond Reflections, has stolen my heart on this Valentine’s Day.

I love the fourth, but the light in all of them is perfect autumn light -- very sideways, but it’s colour is all the more beautiful for that.
Ice Swimmer says
Thank you, all!
The ponds were a nice surprise for me. I remember seeing small ponds on (other*) rocks when I was a kid, but these were much bigger than I’ve been used to.

* = When I was in primary school, one of the places we lived was on Mustankallionmäki (Black rock hill) in Lahti. There was a large area of rocks in a natural state on the hill and some small ponds.

I love such ponds. They look so beautiful.
Giliell says
What beautiful photos. The light is perfect, soft and warm
